This is a piece of the one yard diameter log. Unfortunately I didn’t keep photographing until it was fully split, it was a stubborn one — three wedges used more than once, on this piece, before it gave in. You can see the first piece John split off to his right in the background, he hasn’t resplit that one to stove size yet, Monday’s splitting turned into the first grade beanbag sewing and processing and preserving of food for the year instead — we’re still all exhausted, but it was good to get some indoor things done for a change!

There will be a bunch of pictures here eventually — wordpress has claimed to upload them, shown me about half, with titles for the other half, and then switched around which ones have pictures and which have only titles. So I’m giving up on pictures for the morning since we’re heading out to do laundry, then coming back to unload it and go to Eugene for appointments, and dropping off school things, rather than trying to make it to a 7pm Eugene Waldorf School meeting — which would have me and Logan out until 9:30 or 10, aside from the night blindness problem, with an early day tomorrow. I’ll try for pictures at our pass through home break, or when we’re back from Eugene, depending on my memory and when wordpress gets its act together.

First Wedge going in to the quarter continuing the first wedge

still not in very far Next step?
Second Wedge

starting it by the firstloose head on the sledge hammer Finally, progress!

Now, this evening, WordPress has been fully cooperative in posting pictures. I don’t know what the difference is, but there they are.

I’ll try for horse pictures tomorrow or Thursday, depending whether I stay up resizing them tonight or not.
